Emotional wellbeing is something we all desire, however due to our conditioning or life experiences we often
learn to repress our true feelings.
If we are unable to let go of negative emotions such as fear, anxiety, anger and guilt, we tend to suppress
them by packing them into our bodies where they are ‘expressed’ as knots of tension.
If we get a physical knock, we are protective of this area until it heals and contract if anyone tries to touch
it. It is the same with our emotions.

Every time we get an emotional knock, we contract a little and tense up. With repeated knocks this can set
up cycles of tension which are reinforced every time the negative emotions are re-experienced . These
tension patterns suppress our energy, spontaneity and natural expression and can often be very difficult to
break.
Even when we have insight into our feelings and patterns, they can still be difficult to let go of completely
because of these (often deeply) trapped emotional tensions. We may feel mentally burdened and stuck in
unhelpful patterns of thinking or behaviour but feel helpless to change. We may have physical problems that
are difficult to overcome.
There is now scientific evidence which shows that the emotional state of a person can have a major
influence on their physical health and susceptibility to disease. For example when the smooth muscles of the
body become hyper or chronically tense this can lead to (or at least contribute to ) problems such as
migraines, asthma and irritable bowel syndrome. Many physical and emotional complaints can be caused by or
aggravated by tension patterns.
Emotional and Physical Release
Emotional Release Therapy is able to clear deep seated emotional tensions in a unique way. Specific hand
positions are applied to relax the body tensions that are holding trapped feelings in place. This restores
energy flow and releases and disperses blockages safely and gently through the body .
Occasionally thoughts, feelings and memories may surface, providing clarity and relief. Although it can be
helpful to talk things through during a session, the focus is on releasing feelings through the body rather
than through the mind.
Sensations of warmth, coldness, tingling and gentle releasing are often experienced during treatment. Deep
sighing or yawning may also occur as the tensions disperse. Afterwards clients report feeling profoundly
relaxed, clearer, more self aware and connected within themselves.
Many conditions such as chronic stress, depression, anxiety states, grief, personal trauma, physical pain,
irritable bowel syndrome and ME can be alleviated.
These techniques are combined with Shiatsu to provide a deeper focus for personal healing.
